Three labs I know directly failed to replicate it and none of the failures were published. No journal wanted them and the original author reviews in that area.
The paper is treated as unusable inside the subfield and still gets cited in introductions because reviewers expect it there. I've done it twice myself.
The tell from outside: a result cited constantly and extended by nobody. Everyone's building around it rather than on it.
